Al igual que en ediciones anteriores, en este XVI Taller didáctico del Románico partimos de la idea de que un edificio románico es algo más que una obra de arte y que su contemplación puede aportar al visitante un amplio caudal de conocimientos que van más allá de los aspectos puramente estéticos. En este sentido, hay que tener en cuenta que las iglesias románicas son fiel reflejo de la época en que se erigieron de ahí que muchos aspectos relativos a sus formas constructivas o decorativas ofrezcan datos importantes para conocer mejor la sociedad del momento y la mentalidad de quienes hicieron uso de ellas. Sus muros nos hablan de la época en que fueron construidos, de las gentes que los erigieron, de la tecnología de que se sirvieron y del complejo universo espiritual que lo envolvía todo.
Los objetivos de estas jornadas son lograr un acercamiento al carácter multidimensional del monumento románico, analizando sus aspectos artísticos, técnicos, históricos y funcionales. Para ello continuaremos con la norma de impartir todas las lecciones al pie mismo de las iglesias, facilitando de esa manera no sólo el acercamiento práctico al edificio sino también una mayor interrelación entre profesores y alumnos. La teoría no es suficiente, de ahí que esta propuesta la hayamos fundamentado más en el trabajo de campo que en el espacio del aula. Con este fin proponemos un recorrido por una amplia selección de iglesias románicas que servirán para ejemplificar algunas de estas cuestiones.
