Durante la Edad Media, las complejas intersecciones entre el poder, la doctrina y la tecnología dieron forma a la experiencia visual. Las preguntas sobre quién veía las imágenes, cómo se veían y qué se podía mostrar son, por lo tanto, inseparables de las estructuras de visión orquestadas por las autoridades políticas y eclesiásticas. Los estudios de varios investigadores han disipado la idea de una «Edad Media antivisual».
Investigaciones recientes sobre la metafísica de la luz, las teorías medievales de la cognición, las estructuras narrativas, el color y la visión encarnada, entre otros temas, han demostrado la importancia de las condiciones de visión y la subjetividad para la función y la recepción de las imágenes medievales. Se han examinado las configuraciones históricas y culturalmente específicas que regían el ver, el ser visto y la representación visual, es decir, las fuerzas sociales, tecnológicas e institucionales que organizaban los regímenes de la visión. Al hacerlo, los nuevos estudios también han renovado la atención prestada a los escritos de Guillermo de Ockham, Roger Bacon, Pedro de Limoges y otros, en contextos más amplios como la recepción del saber antiguo, la ciencia óptica y la historia de las controversias eucarísticas.
El coloquio dedicado a los «regímenes de visualidad» del arte medieval tiene como objetivo avanzar en la comprensión de las diversas formas en que la atención del espectador hacia las obras medievales construía significado. Con ese fin, se examinarán los protocolos de observación incorporados en la ekphrasis y otros textos, se explorará las nociones de tiempo y progresión que se materializan a través de los movimientos del espectador, la representación ritual y los cambios de perspectiva y se prestará atención a las señales internas para la observación adecuada de las obras de arte. Además, se considerará cómo las condiciones físicas cambiantes de la visión, como las progresiones de luz (natural y artificial), el pasar las páginas, la manipulación y las circunstancias corporales del envejecimiento, la educación y la salud, contribuyeron a comprender el significado de las obras de arte medieval, generando lo que podría denominarse un «programa de visión» para los fieles.
Reconociendo que la visión no era ni pasiva ni neutral durante la Edad Media, sino un elemento activo en la construcción del significado de las obras de arte, este coloquio se propone examinar las coordenadas culturales y los intereses ideológicos del arte medieval, incluidos los procedimientos de conocimiento, las prácticas de devoción y el ejercicio del poder articulado a través de regímenes visuales deliberados.

COMUNICACIONES
Este coloquio constituye una convocatoria abierta a aquellos investigadores que deseen presentar los resultados de sus análisis en esta materia. Los interesados deberán enviar un resumen del contenido de su comunicación, con una extensión máxima de 2 páginas DIN A4, a espacio sencillo (letra Times New Roman, de 12 puntos), además de una breve selección de las referencias bibliográficas fundamentales en las que se apoyará su discurso. Todo ello se enviará a la siguiente dirección de correo electrónico: plhuerta@santamarialareal.org
El plazo para la recepción de los resúmenes finalizará el 20 de julio y se informará sobre la aceptación o no de la comunicación antes del 31 de julio. En el caso de las admitidas se hará saber, igualmente, el tiempo disponible para su exposición en público, la extensión requerida para su publicación y las normas de edición.
Matrícula ordinaria: 175 €
Matrícula reducida: 130 € (Amigos del Patrimonio, Amigos del Románico, personas en paro, asistentes a los Coloquios de 2024 o 2025 y a los inscritos en otros cursos de la Fundación Santa María la Real del Patrimonio Histórico en 2026).
Matrícula especial: 75 € (estudiantes universitarios menores de 30 años)
