Desde los fastuosos frescos de Giotto en Asís hasta el cromatismo apocalíptico de Signorelli en Orvieto, esta región de paisajes arbolados, burgos amurallados y laderas cubiertas de robles y castaños ofrece una Italia más recogida e íntima, menos transitada pero profundamente evocadora, con un rico patrimonio cultural heredero de su esplendoroso pasado medieval.
El viaje recorre algunas de sus ciudades más emblemáticas, comenzando por la encantadora Narni, con sus iglesias medievales y su sugestiva ciudad subterránea. En Perugia, ciudad universitaria y artística, descubriremos la monumentalidad sobria del Palazzo dei Priori, los frescos de Perugino y la poderosa huella etrusca bajo sus calles.
Visitaremos también Asís, cuna de San Francisco y Santa Clara, donde espiritualidad y arte se entrelazan en las majestuosas basílicas levantadas en su honor. Nos dejaremos sorprender por Gubbio, la “ciudad de la piedra” y Spoleto, de aires lombardos, con su puente de las torres y la catedral.
El recorrido culmina en Orvieto, sobre un altiplano de toba volcánica, donde admiraremos su impresionante duomo gótico y los frescos de la capilla de San Brizio, una antesala de la Capilla Sixtina.
Estas ciudades colgadas del tiempo cuentan con una gastronomía rica en trufas, vinos y asados de caza, entre ellas, Umbría se muestra como una tierra acogedora donde se revela la Italia de interior en toda su grandeza.
