Resumen:
El contenido de este libro gira en torno al monacato cristiano que se desenvolvió en al-Andalus, esto es, en un espacio dominado por gobernantes de religión musulmana que va desde los territorios más meridionales de la península íbérica hasta lugares más septentrionales, como Huesca o Tudela. La situación del cristiano en esas zonas se caracterizó durante largo tiempo por una tolerancia por parte de los gobernantes hacia su religión y sus costumbres al considerar a cristianos y judíos como dhimmíes (protegidos), pueblos del Libro, que, junto con los musulmanes, reconocían a Abraham como su padre en la fe. Tal tolerancia tenía para los sometidos un precio: el pago de tributos. En este libro se analizan cuestiones que van desde las puramente ideológicas hasta las evidencias materiales que dicho monacato dejo tanto en el norte como en el sur de lo que hoy es España.
