Presentamos la colección de cuatro misericordias de algunas catedrales españolas, elaborada por el taller artesanal Ornamentos Arquitectónicos.

Las cuatro misericordias que forman la colección son:

1 - Misericordia de la sillería coral de la Catedral de Burgos.

La vieja sillería gótica de la Catedral de Burgos fue sustituida, a partir de 1505, por una nueva de tres alturas tallada en estilo renacentista  por el artista borgoñón Felipe Vigarny en colaboración con otros artistas como Andrés de Nájera y, quizá, Guillén de Holanda. En toda ella se desparrama una abigarrada serie de relieves con escenas del Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento, y otras del santoral cristiano. En el siglo XVI se puso de moda en las catedrales españolas situar la sillería en medio de la nave mayor, y así se hizo hacia 1522 con la tallada por Bigarny en Burgos, trasladando las dos hileras de sillerías del presbiterio hasta los pies de la nave. Las modificaciones requeridas por el cambio de ubicación corrieron a cargo de, entre otros escultores, Simón de Bueras, García de Arredondo y Luis Gabeo. En 1586 García de Arredondo realizó un cátedra para el arzobispo siguiendo el gusto renacentista romanista de la época, y años después, desde 1619, se esculpió en estilo clasicista y sobre planos trazados por los arquitectos Juan de Naveda y Felipe Alvaredo una hilera nueva que cerró transversalmente la nave, configurando la actual planta en forma de U.

La misericordia o paciencia es una pequeña ménsula o apoyo de una sillería del coro. La sillería del coro tenía asientos plegables para cuando había que levantarse y cantar. Como apoyo para tiempos prolongados de pie se crearon en la parte inferior de los asientos las misericordias, que permitían apoyar las nalgas y reducir la fatiga. El término procede del homónimo latino, misericordia. Bajo las misericordias se solían crear adornos tallas. Dado que estaban a la altura del bajo vientre, estos adornos solían mostrar escenas malévolas como alegorías de los pecados capitales. En esta de Burgos, se representa a un grupo de angelillos o querubines que están jugando con unos extraños animales con cabeza de caballo y cabra.

2 - Misericordia de la sillería coral de la Catedral de Palencia.

El coro de la Catedral de Palencia se encuentra situado frente la capilla mayor. La sillería, de época gótica, está compuesta por dos niveles que ocupan caso por completo el espacio del coro. Las misericordias y reposamanos contienen decoración vegetal y figurada. El nivel bajo consta de 46 asientos, todos diferentes, algunos con decoración vegetal de influencia mudejar. 

3 - Misericordia de la sillería coral de la Catedral de León.

La sillería de coro de la catedral de León se compone de dos niveles de estalos con 76 sillas de las cuales 44 en la parte alta y 32 en la baja. No siempre fue como la vemos ahora ni estuvo ubicada donde lo hace actualmente.

Se fecha en la segunda mitad del siglo XV, probablemente diseñada por el maestro Enrique, carpintero de la catedral. Sin embargo fue ejecutada por el maestro Jusquín, al que sucederían Juan de Malinas y Copín de Holanda.

4 - Misericordia de la sillería coral de la Catedral de Toledo.

El Coro de la catedral de Toledo (España) está situado en la nave central de la catedral, frente al presbiterio y separado de éste por la nave del crucero. Longitudinalmente abarca el espacio de dos tramos. Lo más importante dentro de este espacio son sus sillerías, la alta y la baja. La sillería alta tiene más mérito artístico y fue elaborada por dos grandes escultores: Felipe Vigarny y Alonso Berruguete.

En la sillería del coro bajo se sentaban los prebendos (los que tenían rentas por ser canónigos) y los racioneros (prebendo que tenía ración en una iglesia catedral). El coro bajo conserva su fábrica original, obra correspondiente al último gótico entre 1495 y 1498 cuyo autor fue Rodrigo Alemán.

For what purpose do we process your personal data?

In FSMLRPH we treat the following information and with the following purposes:  

CONTACT FORM: Management of requests received.

REGISTRATION FORM: Manage the creation of the account to facilitate purchases through the website.

PURCHASE AS A GUEST" FORM: Processing of the order placed and invoicing of the same.

NEWSLETTER FORM: Manage subscribers to send special offers and exclusive advances on programming and the company's newsletter through any multi-channel medium (email, sms, postal mail, etc).
